Yesterday I posted that a new article comparing and contrasting keyword research tools was available on the MightyMerchant site. This article, “A Comparison of Keyword Research Tools”, left out the popular Keyword Selector Tool, which returns more than 100 search terms that are related to the keyword you enter.
This tool, while still available online, had not returned any results as I was researching tools for the article. I assumed that Yahoo had taken it down while it rebranded Overture products as Yahoo! Search Marketing products. But as of today, Keyword Selector Tool is back online, as many of you will probably be glad to know.
There are no official announcements from Yahoo floating around yet about why the tool has been revived, but it definitely seems to be working. A recent search for “soccer balls” returned data from January 2007, while conversations are taking place online with some people claiming to have seen data from May. It’s possible that the month may vary depending on what search term is entered, but I was only able to return results from January.

This returned some interesting searches, from “how to draw a soccer ball” with 112 searches, to my personal favorite, “a ball curve how soccer to” with 77 searches. 86 people searched for “Rod Stewart soccer ball,” and since my mind sees no logical connection between a black and white sphere and the singer of “Maggie Mae,” I had to google this phenomenon myself. Turns out, Rod Stewart is a huge soccer fan, having played as a teen, and at his concerts women throw soccer balls onstage rather than their knickers. And, he auctioned a soccer ball for charity earlier this year.
